This song was used in KNUE's IETTP.  Listeners must reassemble the lyrics from a set of cards.  Some sections of the song use all 18 cards while others use fewer.

16 Squares

In this activity, learners fold an A4 sheet of paper in half four times to make 16 small squares.  Have the learners number the squares from 1 to 16.  Learners must listen to your instructions and fill all their squares.  This activity can be done each week using different instructions and different content for the squares.  After a few weeks, learners can then make their own instructions to read to their groups. Int'l Dialects of English Archive

A collection of freely downloadable recordings of real people speaking English in their own native accents and dialects. An excellent way to practice listening to different varieties of spoken English.

The Speech Accent Archive

Native and non-native speakers of English read the same paragraph and are carefully transcribed. The archive is used by people who wish to compare and analyze the accents of different English speakers.

This activity focuses equally on listening and speaking.  Learners must identify the incorrect information they hear and correct it using word stress and intonation.  To expand this activity to include writing, have learners make their own cards and then use the learners' cards the next time you do the activity. Here are the four different stories from Friday's Listening Station Dictation activity.  Each ZIP file contains the individual sentences from each station.  The first ZIP file is the "Sam & Sheri" story (Station A).  The second ZIP file is the "Sheila & Sara" story (Station B).  The third ZIP file is the "Jake & Jane" story (Station C).  The fourth ZIP files is the "Peter" story (Station D).

 

Population Activity
 

An information gap activity that focuses on listening to large numbers (populations).  The activity consists of one handout for each learner and two sets of cards per group.  Ten cards have world city populations and 10 cards have country populations.

 

Learners must mingle and get the populations for all 10 cities and all 10 countries.
