Johnny Cash was an American country music singer and songwriter known to his fans as "The Man in Black¡±. He was born February 26, 1932 and died September 12, 2003.  In a career that 1. spanned almost five decades, he was the 2. personification of country music to many Americans and others around the world who had no other knowledge or interest in that art form. His 3. gravelly voice and the distinctive sound of his backing band, the ¡°Tennessee Two¡± were instantly recognizable to millions. 

No other artist has touched the world of music quite like Johnny Cash. He is one of only two people to be 4. honored in both the Country Music Hall Of Fame and The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame; the other person is Elvis Presley. Cash is the ONLY person to be 5. inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame, The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame AND The Songwriter's Hall Of Fame. He has won 6. literally hundreds of awards including 14 Grammy awards and a lifetime achievement award from the National Academy of Songwriters. 

Some of Johnny¡¯s best-known hits are, ¡°Folsom Prison Blues¡±, ¡°Ring of Fire¡±, and ¡°A Boy Named Sue¡±. 

The last hit single and video before his death is a 7. powerful rerecording of  the song ¡°Hurt¡± by Trent Reznor.  The video is a 8. poignant and 9. haunting recount of Cash¡¯s life and career; 10. poignant because it shows his wife of 35 years just months before her death, and 11. haunting because Cash himself dies less than a year after making the video and just four months after his wife¡¯s death.
