Academic & Professional Links

Looking for a useful classroom timer in English? There are many available,
but this is one of my favorites.

Voice of America
Good source of listening material

International Dialects of English
Archive
An excellent way to practice listening to different varieties of spoken English

The Speech Accent Archive
The speech accent archive uniformly presents a large set of speech samples from
a variety of language backgrounds. Native and non-native speakers of English
read the same paragraph and are carefully transcribed. The archive is used by
people who wish to compare and analyze the accents of different English
speakers.

American Public Broadcasting
(PBS)
A very interesting and in-depth look at American English and how it is used
differently across the US. Be sure to check out the
TEST YOUR VOWEL POWER section. It's amazing how differently words can
be pronounced by people speaking the same language.

Antimoon.com
This is an interesting site with
an interesting perspective on learning English (especially pronunciation).
As the site owners say...
Antimoon.com
provides advice and inspiration to learners of English as a
second/foreign language (ESL/EFL). Most importantly, we present a philosophy
of learning English (called the
Antimoon Method) which
is based on our successful experiences as English learners.
